Visitors to the Rand Show this Easter will get a taste of the blistering rear-wheel driving flair, ‘slideways’ motions and serious speed that are all part and parcel of the world’s fastest growing motorsport – drifting.
South Africa’s ultimate drifting team, the Speed & Sound Achilles Chevrolet Lumina Drift Team, will be taking Rand Show visitors for a spin on the track they’ll never forget.
Drifting requires drivers to control a high-powered car through a high-speed slide, with great precision and masses of style. Some of SA’s top professional drifting drivers – Ryde Jones, Jim McFarlane, Mikey Skelton and Ruann Engelbrecht – will show you just why drifting is such a high-octane crowd puller.
From 22 April to 2 May 2011, the four drivers will perform demonstrations with plenty of engine-revving stunts throughout the day – just listen for the scream of rubber on tar to know when to hurry over to the Drifting Zone.
You’ll also be able to hitch a ride with one of them to experience the thrill for yourself. For those Rand Show visitors with nerves of steel, SupaDrift organiser XS Promotions will be presenting a ‘Suicide Ride’ experience that no petrol head should miss.
For R100 a person, you can jump into the 6.0-litre V8 rear-wheel drive “Speed & Sound, Barloworld GM Bruma” Chevrolet SS Lumina, or the sexy 3.5-litre V6 “Achilles, Turn 1” Nissan 350Z, and let the guys show you what all the fuss is about.
Three to four passengers can squeeze into the Lumina, or book your seat in the Nissan 350Z for a solo experience.
Excitement is going to be the order of the day, but then you wouldn’t expect anything less from the Rand Show. So see you at Nasrec this Easter, for a Great Day Out, Every Day with the Rand Show.
