Learn how to make sashimi, nigiri, maki and more with a lesson from an international chef at this luxury Century City property
The ever-so-chic African Pride Crystal Towers Hotel & Spa doesn’t just serve up world-class sushi; it teaches others how to create exceptional sushi too. Every last Saturday of the month, the Century City property runs a fun and informative class for up to 12 people who are eager to acquire the fine-tuned skills necessary to make this much-loved raw fish dish.Taking place in the deli section that sits next to the hotel’s elegant Towers Restaurant, the classes are led by an international sushi chef and they include instructions on how to perfect the textures, flavours and presentation of everything from sashimi, nigiri and vegetarian maki to California rolls and salmon roses. They’re also designed to offer a full luxury experience, so ‘students’ can sip on the property’s signature Crystal Mojito (a pink cocktail comprising vanilla rum, fresh lime, mint, vanilla syrup and cranberry juice) while they watch the tutor’s demonstrations and they can tuck into the platter of goods that they’ve created after the lesson is done.
Cost: It costs R335p/p to attend a sushi-making class at the hotel, and this price includes the lesson, a cocktail and the platter of grub that you make (the per person cost is the same for the fixed date classes and the private experience). Booking a spot in advance is essential and can be done by phoning +27 (0)21 525 3888 or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. Do note, for the fixed date classes, there is no minimum number of attendees required, but the maximum number of people that can be accommodated is 12 (so book soon to avoid disappointment).
