World-famous cosmetologist and cosmetic physician Dr Jamuna Pai, from India, was in Durban recently.
Renowned Bollywood cosmetologist Dr Jamuna Pai, who works with stars like Aishwarya Rai and the beauties at Miss Universe and Miss World, has been listed among the most influential women in the world.
She is also said to be the most sought-after cosmetic physician in India and is considered the world’s leading expert on facial aesthetic assessment.
Pai, who was in Durban as a guest of the International Bank Vaults My Lady club, is the pioneer of the liquid facelift – sculpting the face non-surgically with zero downtime – and this is her forté.
She explains: “This is a series of treatments used to restore, rejuvenate or enhance one’s looks or beauty with the help of minimally invasive or non-invasive techniques using liquids like botox and dermal filler gels, and peels which constitute a liquid facelift.
“The botox erases the dynamic wrinkles, relaxes neck bands, thins the jaw and wipes away the frown lines, while the dermal filler on the other hand helps to replenish or restore the lost volume which has happened with the loss of fat pads with ageing.
“The dermal filler gels are used for filling the temporal fossa, under eye sunken area, filling of the cheeks, enhancing the face with high cheek bones, filling deep laugh lines, streamlining the jaw line, filling of |pre-jowl sulcus, filling lips to make them more sensual, correcting nasal deformities and even filling the chin area to create a harmonious, younger and fresher look.
“Finally, the peels are used to improve the texture and colour of the skin.”
Pai says there is “breaking news” almost every day on new research.
“There are injections of protein-rich plasma, dracula therapy; lasers for every indication, from painless hair removal to skin resurfacing to fat suction; stem cell therapy for various indications – which I feel is still in its nascent stage. The wellness industry in the 21st century is touted to be the sunshine industry and therefore one can expect more and more miracles on the beauty front.”
Pai manages to successfully combine the art of cosmetics and medicines and there’s no better proof than starlet Aishwarya Rai. However, there was little we could get out of her about the actress, as client confidentially took precedence over a juicy story.
Pai’s work might sound magical, but she is incredibly realistic about the processes and has old-fashioned ideas about beauty.
She says beauty is ultimately in a smile.
“A face that comes alive during expressions of thought and the smile on the face that reaches the eye is, according to me, what makes any face beautiful.
“Believe me, even if all the features or skin colour are not exactly what the book would describe as beautiful, a smiling face is what makes the face beautiful.
“If we are talking of any one feature, I would say that the smiling eyes that reflect your personality, your state of mind (joy, sorrow, anxiety, love and health) is one’s most beautiful feature.”
Pai says women commonly made the mistake of not researching enough before submitting themselves to treatments.
“Consider whether it will suit you, who is the most experienced and qualified doctor in your area who is known for his/her expertise in the same field.
“You should also know when to stop and what is enough.”
