Ray Farnham, NSRI Plettenberg Bay station commander, said; “On 22 May a concentrated effort was resumed to search for missing 57 year old Leonard Smith, from Fourways, Johannesburg, who is believed to have gone missing around the night of Wednesday 18th May in Plettenberg Bay.
Efforts to find Leonard Smith, since Wednesday night, has revealed no sign of the missing man and his whereabouts and the circumstances surrounding his disappearance are unknown.
It is certain that he arrived from Johannesburg on a flight to George on Wednesday 18th May and he then drove to Plettenberg Bay in a hired car and was last heard from at around 17h30 that evening when he is believed to have gone for a walk. The hired vehicle was found in the garage of his Cutty Sark, Plettenberg Bay, home, but there has been no sign of Leonard Smith since.
Today NSRI Plettenberg Bay volunteers, The SA Police Service, Private Security firms, The Mountain Club of South Africa – South Cape Mountain Rescue Unit – Plettenberg Bay, a private helicopter, public volunteers and family of Leonard Smith searched the surrounds of Plettenberg Bay extensively to no avail.
Leonard Smith has brown grey hair, is 1.75 meters tall, and was last seen wearing a white golf shirt, shorts, a black knee guard, white Nike sports shoes, and walking with a light wooden walking stick.”
