Southern Johannesburg suffered a power outage as from approximately 16h00 on Monday afternoon. City power officials advised that the outage was caused by cable damage in the vicinity of Gold Reef City between Prospecton and Robertsham.
This power outage also resulted in the Rand Show grounds being without power as the City Council could not supply power to the show grounds.
The standby power at the show grounds was sufficient to provide hall lighting to all indoor exhibits. The circus was able to continue with their performances on their own standby power. The Brian Capper X-treme show was able to proceed on standby power. The Fun Fair was able to continue operating on their standby power.
As a gesture of goodwill the Organisers of the Rand Show have announced that any visitors to the Rand Show on Monday 25 April who are in possession of their tickets or ticket stubs valid for 25 April can return to the Rand Show on Tuesday 26 April at no charge provided they enter the show grounds prior to 13h00 and provided they show their ticket stub for 25 April.
The power outage occurred at approximately 16h00. Ticket booths into the show grounds were shut down and no further tickets were sold.
