From 22 April to 2 May, the Rand Show 2011 and the SA Chefs Association will be tantalising visitors’ taste buds at a food extravaganza that will tempt even the fussiest palate – the SA Chefs Theatre, brought to you by Fruit & Veg City and Potatoes SA.
For a true gastronomic experience, plan a stop at the SA Chefs Theatre for a session of culinary wizardry and great tips you can take home to your own kitchen*.
Want some expert advice on how to cook up family meals for under R100? Then why not learn from the experts? Chefs from Culinary Team South Africa, as well as some of Joburg’s top restaurant chefs will demonstrate how to create innovative family meals from the sort of everyday pantry items you might well have in your own kitchen.
Apart from impressing you with how effortlessly they’re able to throw together a whole meal on the fly, they’ll also inspire you to try out their tasty yet simple recipes on your own family.
There will also be cooking challenges à la “Ready, Steady, Cook”, with chefs going head to head across the stove. In each challenge, chefs will receive a mystery box containing typical pantry items, which they’ll need to whip into something innovative and tasty. When the final timer sounds, the audience will decide which chef is victorious.
Some of Joburg’s foremost chefs will be there:
- Nicky Gibbs from the Westcliff;
- Tammy Henton from the Michelangelo Hotel;
- James Khoza from Sandton Sun;
- Leon Hatton Jones from the Radisson Park Inn;
- Ciro Molinaro from La Cucina Di Ciro;
- Fortunato Mazzone from Il Ritrovo;
- Jodi Ann Pearton from Food Design Agency;
- Arnold Tanzer from Food on the Move; and
- Franz de Waal from Franz Catering.
The Cake Decorators Guild will also be appearing on Friday, 29 April, so if baking’s your thing, don’t miss the Guild’s various cake-decorating demonstrations.
With more than just great recipes up their sleeves, the chefs will be giving away a host of spot prizes throughout the 11-day run of the Rand Show. Be sure you’re there to stand a chance of winning prizes like training vouchers from the Southern Sun Centre for Culinary Excellence, incorporating the Vulcan Skills Kitchen, as well as other sponsored products.
