Pretoria – Minister of Science and Technology Naledi Pandor will on Thursday lead a high-powered delegation on a two-day visit to Maputo, Mozambique, to attend the third South Africa-Mozambique Joint Committee on Science and Technology.
Pandor’s visit is at the invitation of her Mozambican counterpart, Minister Venâncio Massingue.
Apart from attending the Joint Committee Meeting, Minister Pandor and her delegation will also visit the biotechnology laboratory at the Mozambique Institute for Agrarian Research, the Maluana Science and Technology Park and the Ihaca Biology Station.
The Department of Science and Technology enjoys good relations with the Ministry of Science and Technology in Mozambique.
“The relationship is characterised by continuous exchanges between the two departments on matters of mutual interest,” the department said.
South Africa and Mozambique signed a bilateral cooperation agreement in July 2006. Since then, two joint committee meetings and one ministerial visit have taken place.
The parties have also established annual joint calls, hosted one joint workshop on climate change, and are actively collaborating on the Square Kilometre Array project. – BuaNews
