Rudi Rogers, NSRI Yzerfontein deputy station commander, said; “On 2 May at 14h00 NSRI Yzerfontein volunteers were activated following a request for assistance from the 26 foot yacht Valerie reporting mechanical steering failure and requiring a tow North off-shore of Yzerfontein with 2 crew onboard in 1 meter swell and a 15 knot Southerly wind.
NSRI Yzerfontein volunteers launched our sea rescue craft Rotary Onwards and on arrival on-scene a tow-line was rigged and we towed the yacht to Mykonos harbor where the yacht was safely berthed and the 2 crew, skipper Harold Gripper, 70, and his crewman Bennie Marais, 37, both from Philadelphia, Cape Town, required no further assistance.”
