The Austin Motor Company of England built cars from 1905. In 1952 the Austin Motor Company merged with Morris Motors Limited to form BMC (British Motor Corporation), they sold Morris, Austin, Wolseley, Riley and MG cars. The Austin name was used up until 1987.
These little cars were introduced as the new Austin Seven, Austin’s answer to the Morris Minor. They were narrow but tall, looked like a miniture version of the bigger saloons, the A40 and A70.
The 4 door Saloon was produced from 1951-59
The 2 door Saloon, from 1953-59
The Countryman Estate from 1954-62
The Van from 1954-68 (a few Pickups were built in 1956)
The first of these cars was the A30, 30hp 803cc 4 cyl, they had a chrome grille, small back window and trafficators in the door pillars
The 1956 update was the A35, 35hp 948cc 4 cyl, (from 1962 55hp 1098cc) they had a larger back window, painted grille and indicators below the headlights.
Also assembled in Australia from 1952-56.
