Johannesburg, 21 April 2016 – Batuk is a house music collective founded by South African producers Aero Manyelo and Spoek Mathambo alongside Mozambican/South African lead vocalist, Manteiga. The eclectic ensemble is on a quest to connect the African diaspora by exchanging and sharing rhythm culture and language while fusing it with electrifying house beats.

With influences from afrohouse, deep house, soul, zouk, techno and traditional African music, the trio represents the spirit of proudly African youth with a global state of mind. To date the project has completed multi-disciplinary collaborations in South Africa, Mozambique and Uganda, which have resulted in a sound that is set to capture the imagination of listeners around the globe.

Musica da Terra the group’s debut album is a genre bending album that features the likes of Nandi Ndlovu (from South Africa), Grupo Zore and Grupo Makarita (Mozambique); Giovanni Kiyingi, Annet Nandujja, Lebon, and Nilotica (Uganda). Musica da Terra is set for a world wide digital release on 31 May 2016, Batuk fans haven’t been left wanting.

The trio has been tantalising fans with the release of 2 singles accompanied by music videos. The first single Daniel, with the b –side titled Reya Congo, features long-time collaborator and South African songstress Nandi Ndlovu. This single is accompanied by an exquisite music video, directed by acclaimed director Kent Andreasen and shot on location in Impaputo, Mozambique. The second single, Call me Naughty – with Manteiga who raps and sings in Portuguese on the lead vocals – showcases the group’s playful side and is also accompanied by a video.

Batuk is currently preparing for a European tour from May-August 2016 as the world awaits the release of the debut, Musica da Terra. Upon their return they will be looking to perform at a number of South African venues, to give their fans the Batuk experience.
