Commonwealth Multicultural Day

A South Africa Event on 2016-03-14 10:00:00

Programme Line-Up Raising of the Commonwealth Flag by Colchester Mayor – Theresa Higgins: 10am to 10:10am Multicultural Open Event (AFIUK CIC and Hashtag4biz): Drop in from 10:10am to 12:00pm The Mayor of Colchester – Theresa Higgins in association with Rachel Walton of AFIUK (African families in the UK) CIC, Julia Obasa of Hashtag4biz (Business Consultancy, Events & Marketing) and the Colchester Fairtrade Town Steering Group, is organising a multicultural event to mark the Commonwealth Day on the 14th of March at the Colchester Town Hall. The aim of the day is to showcase the diversity of the 53 Commonwealth countries. In past years, a flag signifying the Commonwealth Day was flown over the Town Hall but the Mayor has chosen to change the norm this year and make the relevance of the day more pronounced.   The Commonwealth is an international association consisting of the UK together with countries that were previously part of the British Empire, and dependencies. The event starts with the raising of the Commonwealth flag by the Mayor of Colchester – Theresa Higgins and followed by the multicultural (open/ free) event which is expected to have a large turn out and will consist of different stalls of food, fashion, artefacts and other cultural items displayed to the public. Stall holders are not expected to sell but if there are any sales, all proceeds will go to the Mayor’s chosen charities. How to get involved If you are interested in a stall for the multicultural open event, get in touch with – Rachel on 0753 9455 974 / afiukrachel@gmail.com or Julia on 0785 0991 208 / julia@hashtag4biz.com.
