Former Miss South Africa announces annual women appreciation dinner:
Joan Ramagoshi Madibeng
Johannesburg – 13 June 2017: Former Miss South African, now businesswoman, Joan Ramagoshi Madibeng, is delighted to announce the 7th Women: The Real Architects of Society gala dinner which will take place in Johannesburg on Saturday 19 August 2017.
Birthed in 2010, the gala dinner has continued to recognise and celebrate active South African women and has provided a networking platform for women to connect and forge strategic partnerships. Yet this year the organisation has decided to expand their horizons and tackle difficult and sensitive issues regarding the treatment of South African women in a safe, informative and supportive environment.
The 7th annual gala dinner aims to recognise outstanding achievements by women in numerous fields, the gala dinner will embrace conversations and networking opportunities. South Africa has one of the highest incidences of domestic violence in the world. Sadly, domestic violence is the most common and widespread human rights abuse in South Africa.
Despite many successes in empowering women, numerous issues still exist in all areas of life, ranging from the cultural, political to the economic. Gender equality is rightly seen as crucial to sustainable development, yet the interconnections between environmental sustainability and women’s empowerment have often been overlooked in practice.
Gender bias is still deeply embedded in cultures, economies, political and social institutions around the world. Women and girls face unacceptable levels of discrimination and abuse, which is not only wrong, but also prevents them from playing a full part in society and decision making. Gender equality furthers the cause of child survival and development for all of society, so the importance of women’s rights and gender equality should not be underestimated which are one of the issues that the 2017 gala dinner hopes to address.
In 2016 the gala dinner presented the inaugural Women: The Real Women of Architects Awards which honoured women from all walks of life in the following categories:
