For the fourth consecutive year The Pole Factor will hit the Mother City with jaw-dropping performances by both amateur and professional competitors. As in previous years the competition aims to showcase the athleticism and artistry of pole dance in four categories, namely Pole Acrobat, Pole Artiste, Pole Provocateur and Pole Duets.

Saturday, 1 December will see pole dancers from across the country gather to showcase their skills in the hopes of walking away with a prestigious title, and for those in the professional division, a chance to gain automatic entry into the semi-finals of the International Pole Championship (IPC) 2019.

Twenty finalists have been announced across four genres of the sport:

• Pole Acrobat – the sporty side of pole; strength, power, agility and athleticism
• Pole Artiste – the artistic side of pole; expression, interpretation and movement
• Pole Provocateur – the exotic side of pole; sensual, heels and flexibility
• Pole Duets – doubles on the pole; two dancers incorporating any of the three styles above

Organiser of the competition and owner of The Pole Project studio, Kathy Lee shares; “Although we’re now in our fourth year and much of the format and logistics of the event are pretty set, the nature of a competition means that there is always a surprise element as the performers’ routines and outfits are kept secret until their big reveal on stage.”

Lee adds that in 2018 The Pole Factor is proud to be affiliated with the International Pole Championship (IPC) saying, “The IPC is the most prestigious pole dance competition in the world. The highest scoring champion from the professional divisions that make it through to the IPC 2019 semi-finals, will be competing against the best of the best. Our association with such an important global event is significant in that our local pole dancers are being recognised for their skill and commitment to the sport, right up there with athletes of a very high calibre the world over.”

The IPC is run by the International Pole Dance Fitness Association (IPDFA) and has taken place in metropolitan centres such as Tokyo, Manila, Hong Kong and Brisbane. IPC 2019 is planned to be held in Singapore in April 2019. Lee continues, “This is a brilliant opportunity for South African competitors to be recognised internationally and to represent South Africa on the international stage.”

Lee was approached by Tracey Ecclestone from IPDFA on the IPC association after judging The Pole Factor 2017. Ecclestone says, “Due in large part to Kathy’s great reputation and the credibility of The Pole Factor nationally, we selected Kathy to represent the IPDFA in South Africa.”

Lee has also been sponsored her Master Trainer level by IPDFA’s PolePro Instructor Courses, the IPDFA’s internationally recognised and accredited instructor courses. She will soon be the only Master Trainer in South Africa with a qualification of internationally recognised standards.

PolePro will be sponsoring prizes at The Pole Factor 2018, along with Fria’s Superfoods – the maker of deliciously healthy high-protein treats.

The Pole Factor will be held at the Joseph Stone Auditorium in Athlone from 19h00 – 21h00 on Saturday, 1 December 2018. Tickets are available pre-event on Quicket starting at R245 per person and will be sold at the door on the night. Drinks and snacks will be on sale at the venue on the evening.
