Tintswalo to host ‘Christmas in July Rhino Fundraiser Dinner and Auction’ on 13 July 2017

30 June 2017 By admin

Tintswalo to host ‘Christmas in July Rhino Fundraiser Dinner and Auction’ on 13 July 2017:

In answer to the unprecedented rhino-poaching crisis in Southern Africa, Tintswalo Safari Lodge aims to provide funding and support the Southern African Wildlife College (SAWC), for a variety of urgently needed anti-poaching interventions in the Manyeleti Game Reserve, Greater Kruger National Park. To raise awareness and funds for the cause, Tintswalo will host a special ‘Christmas in July Rhino Fundraiser Dinner & Auction’ in Johannesburg at Tintswalo at Waterfall on Thursday 13 July 2017. Tickets for the event are now available.

During the evening, guests will be able to enjoy drinks and a four-course dinner with matching wines, followed by a fundraising auction during which they will be able to bid on exclusive auction items. All proceeds from the evening will go to the Southern African Wildlife College’s Anti-Rhino Poaching Campaigns.

In response to the dramatic increase in cases of rhino poaching, Tintswalo Safari Lodge has launched a multifaceted programme to strengthen rhino conservation efforts in the Manyeleti Game Reserve and the surrounding local communities. It has always been part of Tintswalo’s culture to engage and work with local communities by raising conservational and environmental awareness through educational campaigns, training workshops and participation in initiatives run in the area.

Tintswalo Safari Lodge has developed a three-point strategic framework to address the issue and actively combat the threat to rhinos:

1.The lodge raises awareness amongst its guests by presenting an informative visual presentation with the facts and figures on rhino poaching, and some ways in which guests themselves can help. Each guest also has the option to donate to the cause upon check out.

2.Tintswalo has joined forces with the local communities in the region, as well as private companies and government departments, in order to drive an educational awareness programme to target the local surrounding communities on the borders of the Manyeleti Game Reserve. Its aim is to develop and educate the region’s youth and communities to protect their natural resources by creating an understanding of the importance and relationship between the game reserve, its natural heritage, eco-tourism, the lodges, the community and jobs, to have a sustainable future for all. So far the programme has reached around 800 pupils from the 19 communities surrounding the Manyeleti.

3.Tintswalo supports the funding of anti-rhino poaching projects being run by the SAWC, which include its ‘Eye in the Sky’ Bathawk Programme – an aircraft vital for anti-poaching training, ground air patrols and support in terms of rhino monitoring and data capture; Wildlife Guardianship/Anti-Poaching Field Ranger Training; and the K9 Anti-Poaching Project, which trains field rangers as dog handlers plus dogs themselves in disciplines that are of most benefit to the anti-poaching community.
Tickets to the Tintswalo Fundraiser event are available at R1,200 per person, with tables of 10 receiving a special rate of R10,000 per table. Dinner guests wishing to make the most of the evening may also book one of Tintswalo at Waterfall’s luxury Suites at a rate of R1,500 per couple, which includes breakfast the following morning.
