Productivity awards for Limpopo companies<\/p>\n

\u201cLeading a productivity and competitiveness driven growth and development agenda in South Africa\u201d
The winners for the annual Limpopo Regional Productivity Awards were announced at an event held today at the Khoroni Hotel Casino Convention Resort, Thohoyandou. The entity responsible for promoting productivity within South Africa, Productivity SA and The Limpopo Provincial Government Department of Economic Development, Environment and Tourism (LEDET), held an awards ceremony to give recognition to top performing companies in Limpopo.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the Limpopo Regional Productivity the Chief Executive Officer of Productivity SA, Mr Mothunye Mothiba said \u201centrepreneurship is a solution to our country\u2019s unemployment calamity as we celebrate world entrepreneurship day which is observed on the 21st of August globally\u201d. Entrepreneurship day is a day which has been coined to celebrate innovation and empowerment of entrepreneurship and leadership throughout the world. The MEC for Economic Development, Environment and Tourism in Limpopo Mr. Thabo Mokone, delivered the keynote address and echoed Mothiba\u2019s words. Mokone said \u201cfor Limpopo to prosper the residents need to become entrepreneurs rather than employees. The MEC said \u201cas government, we will level the playing ground, we will ensure that your invoices are paid on time and support you in every way to ensure the success of your businesses.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mothiba placed emphasis on the legislative mandate of Productivity SA which is to promote employment growth and productivity thereby contributing to South Africa\u2019s socio-economic development and competitiveness, as contemplated in section 31 of the Employment Services Act, No. 4 of 2014. \u201c<\/p>\n

The Act enables Productivity SA to intervene in businesses that are facing retrenchments and assist with implementing turnaround strategies. However, Productivity SA does not only intervene in distressed companies, but also helps companies improve their productivity and help them attain and retain world class standards.<\/p>\n

As an entity of the Department of Employment and Labour, Productivity SA is closely aligned with the department\u2019s role of reducing unemployment, poverty and inequality through a set of policies and programmes developed in consultation with social partners, aimed at improved economic efficiency and productivity plus Skills development and employment creation. Addressing over 100 delegates at the event, Mothiba said \u201cwe have to improve the contribution of SMEs to the GDP and we can achieve that if we also succeed on moving South Africa from 97 to 90 in the World Economic Rankings in 5 years\u201d.<\/p>\n

The criteria for the awards included the impact that was achieved by the business, the productivity improvement and to what extent was the staff involved in the enterprises. The Limpopo award ceremony form part of other regional awards held countrywide which will culminate in the national award event in Johannesburg on October 17.
